Travelogue Rome: Day 3

Day 3 we started out at the National Archaeological Museum. Then headed on over to the Colosseum. Its a pretty impressive structure. I am pretty sure that this was the kids favorite site in Rome.
This is the shot of the "basement". This is an amazing labyrinth of tunnels that was below the surface. On top of this was a floor with 9 inches of sand on top. This is where they would keep the gladiators and animals like tigers and hippos before they raised them up to the surface thru trap doors to fight.

After that, Brigham had a special treat in store for us. He took us to a professional soccer game. We bought tickets off of a scalper and prayed that they were legitimate. After a series of funny events we made it in. It was a blast watching Seth's favorite player Totti score a hat trick. The fans on both sides were really energized- in fact the opposing team's fans didn't stop cheering them on the entire time. I was impressed with their stamina. Since we are all big soccer fans, the game was definitely a highlight.
After the game we boarded a crammed bus to head back to the metro. Due to all the traffic- it just crept along. Thankfully, we were highly entertained by a group of energetic Roma fans. They sang the entire way back (about 45 minutes). After awhile Brigham started singing their songs with them and Brig was even encouraged to pull out his rendition of "Incarnacio" from Nacho Libre. It was hilarious! It was a great and memorable day.
