Mostar: Koski Mehmed-Pasha Mosque

Mostar has many mosques.  This one dates from the 17th century.
The fountain in the courtyard allows worshippers to wash before entering the mosque, as directed by Islamic law.   It is both a literal and spiritual cleansing  in preparation for being in the presence of Allah.  It is also refreshing in this hot climate.

The adventurous boys are pumping themselves up for a climb up the minaret.  In the old days the "prayer leader" would climb up the tower five times a day and chant, "There is only one God, and Muhammad is his prophet."  Today, they use loud speakers instead.
The view from up high was a great reward.
