Cute Kaleb was out in our next door neighbors backyard. The neighbor boys were hollering and crying because a stray dog had jumped up on one of them and he was afraid. Kaleb came over to see what all the ruckus was about. Another neighbor was there with his two dogs (not on leashes). They were excited due to all the hollering. One of the dogs went to jump on a smaller neighbor boy and Kaleb got in front of him to protect him, then the dumb dog just opened up and bit Kaleb on the nose. As you can see it was a circumferential bite and was barely hanging on in a couple of areas. The skin in the middle was sinking in and loosing blood supply. Brigham and our neighbor gave him a blessing and within minutes the skin started to pink up and the blood flow returned. Love the Priesthood! Kaleb wanted to go into the bathroom and wash his hands- so I went with him, not wanting him to be alone when he saw it. He looked so crestfallen when he saw himself in the mirror. But the first thing he said was- Mom, will you pray for me? What sweet faith!
Our neighbor- whose dog had attacked Kaleb- just happens to be a plastic surgeon, so we all went down to his office and sewed him up. The surgeon lifted the end of his nose up entirely- like a flip top nose. I was just so grateful that it hadn't come off completely. Poor guy was miserable for a few days. So many sweet neighbors and friends brought over gifts and treats and helped this little boy to feel loved- despite feeling like a "freak".
A week later we removed the stitches and it looks pretty darn good and keeps getting getting better every week. He wants nothing to do with dogs now, but we are grateful that a rough situation turned out so well.
